For many parents, losing custody of a child can be one of the most painful things to experience. To make matters even worse, custody decisions do not always represent the best interests of a child. In Lee County, and other counties across the entire state of Florida, child custody cases can have a significant impact on the lives of children as well as their parents.
A 39-year-old man from Fort Lauderdale has been protesting outside of a Florida courthouse in an attempt to regain custody of his children. The father, whose two children were taken away by the Department of Children and Families last year, was also accompanied by another man who said that he has been suffering after losing custody of his children.
The father has been holding a sign in front of the courthouse for a number of days, although authorities recently asked him to exit the premises. Even though the father was deemed unfit to provide proper care for his children, he wishes to regain custody of this 3-year-old daughter and 2-year-old daughter.
Whether parents are going through a contentious divorce or the state decides to step in, losing access to a child is often very emotional for parents. However, parents in this difficult position should remain committed to fighting for an outcome that is healthy for their children. Sometimes, reaching out to a legal professional who knows the ins and outs of family law can provide a number of benefits and a better understanding of how to approach the situation.
