How will a temporary injunction affect me?

On Behalf of | Sep 3, 2016 | Domestic Violence |

If you are a domestic violence victim or have been accused of domestic violence, a temporary injunction could affect you in various ways. In Lee County, and all parts of Florida, it is vital to carefully assess your set of circumstances if you have found yourself in the middle of a domestic violence case. Although temporary injunctions are only in place for 15 days, your future may be seriously impacted if you are dealing with a domestic violence situation.

Whether you are the subject of a temporary injunction or have taken one out against another individual, this injunction could affect your life in multiple ways, according to the Florida Legislature. Also known as temporary restraining orders, these injunctions are intended to prevent subjects from committing domestic violence over a 15-day period. During this time, a temporary parenting plan could be set up and petitioners may be able to secure sole access to a home shared by both parties. However, a hearing must be established before the 15-day injunction expires.

If you are a victim of domestic violence, it is very important to put and end to the abuse immediately. Unfortunately, some people are falsely accused of domestic violence and if you have found yourself in this position, the consequences can be damaging. As a result, you should take a close look at your options and figure out the smartest way to move forward.

Please remember that the purpose of this post was to shed light on temporary injunctions and it should not be taken as legal counsel.
