Many benefits to mediating your divorce

Divorce has a way of bringing out the worst in some people. It can also turn up some ugly factors that caused or heavily contributed to the demise of a marriage.

Naturally, most people prefer not to have all their marital dirty laundry aired in public. But, divorce cases are part of the public record and in most circumstances, are accessible to anyone with the time or inclination to do a little digging.

But all or much of these revelations can remain unrevealed by mediating your divorce. Mediation allows the spouses to settle their issues privately between them and then have the divorce summarily being approved by the court. Vague, nonspecific language can gloss over any salacious aspects of the divorce as long as the parties remain in agreement with the final results.

There are other reasons why so many couples choose mediation over litigation. It's typically much cheaper to mediate your differences rather than shell out dual attorney's fees and court costs to argue over every nit-picking detail.

Couples with children frequently choose this method, as mediated divorces often allow for the preservation of civil parenting relationships once the dust has settled on the divorce.

Not all circumstances are right for mediation, however. If there have been instances of domestic violence or one spouse aggressively bullies the other, the divorce needs to be litigated in court.
